Singapore’s Third Alumni Event Focusses on Strategic Career Management
YMCA Education Centre (YEC), one of the 9 Strathclyde International MBA Centres, organized the 3rd Student/Alumni networking and social event on Fri 27 Dec 2013 at the YMCA Function Room. Despite being held in December, the event was well received with 54 participants. In the usual tradition, participants were treated to a buffet dinner before the proceedings started. It was a good opportunity for students and alumni to get to know each other better.
The main event of the evening was a Strategic Career Management Workshop by the consulting firm One Search Consulting. It was one of the initiatives by YEC to provide enhanced student support with Career Planning, Job Search and applying for jobs.
The session was delivered by Mr Lim Chee Meng, Consultant Asia, Search One Consulting. Chee Meng, who graduated from the Strathclyde MBA programme in November, spoke on the topic “Secrets of Top Echelons and Why You Seldom Hear after Job Applications”, offering valuable tips and suggestions for job hunters:
- Behind the scene activities in reviewing a job advertisement
- Reviewing the Job Advertisement
- How to write an Eye Catching Application letter/Email
- Skills Needed in Customizing A Resume
Students on the MBA programme as well as those who recently graduated found the workshop insightful and helpful in clearing some of their doubts. A document entitled, “Reasons Why This Is an Excellent Resume“ was issued to all those present. Given the wide support, YEC has plans to continue the series in 2014 with further inputs from Strathclyde University’s Career Services department.
Participants were also introduced to a new career education course – the Art of Equities Trading. The 8-hour course will equip course attendees with the basic skill set and techniques to make a winning start.
