Next up in our series of ‘Meet the MBA Programme Team’ posts we meet the people who will be the main points of contact for Full-Time, Part-Time and Flexible Learning students: Margaret, Karen, Kirsteen and Ryan.
Margaret English started working at the University back in 1983, so is this year celebrating her 30 year’s service, and has held various roles in Strathclyde Business School including Admissions, Marketing, Full-time and Part-time MBA Programmes. Margaret has also attended Educational Recruitment Tours in India, Canada and London.
As Programme Administrator for the Full-Time and Part-Time MBA programmes, Margaret has responsibility for all manner of Student Business issues. The role of Programme Administrator is wide-ranging, encompassing everything from Registration to ensuring exam and assessments are managed correctly, to managing the timetable, helping students organise various programme and social events and helping Graduation day go smoothly too. More importantly, Margaret is the first point of contact for the full-time students who have moved here from countries all over the world and will have a variety of issues facing them – programme related or not. Margaret and Karen both provide essential pastoral care to the students whilst they are here and ensure students feel well looked after.
Margaret finds this aspect of her role the most rewarding and has kept in touch with students as far back as 1983, she is a regular at MBA social events and activities such as the Blueksy teambuilding and singing Burns songs at our annual Robert Burns Supper evenings.
Outside of the MBA, Margaret particularly enjoys live music and restaurants. A regular visitor to family in Cyprus she is an avid traveler and recently visited the Grand Canyon in the USA for the first time. She also visits Scottsdale, Arizona every year to attend the Kingston Trio Camp as she is a great fan of John Stewart who was a member of the Kingston Trio before starting his solo career.
Kirsteen Rae is Project Co-Ordinator for the MBA team and so most of her time is taken up liaising with students, academic supervisors and companies and individuals who provide us with suitable MBA projects. Previously Kirsteen worked in the Finance Department before moving to the International Division to assist with the administration of the Offshore Centres, so has a wealth of experience of working with both domestic and international MBA students and colleagues. Kirsteen also regularly attended the Annual International Partners Meeting, which in recent years has been in Switzerland, Malaysia, Singapore and Abu Dhabi and enjoyed being able to catch up with all her Centre colleagues. In addition, Kirsteen enjoys keeping fit and is currently remodelling her house (which is taking up most of her spare time..).
Karen McMillan has worked at the Business School for 7 years. Karen has been with the MBA programme team for 2 years having previously worked with the SBS Undergraduate Management Programmes Team and with the MBA and Department of Management Admissions Team. She is Programme Administrator primarily with responsibility for our Flexible Learning students but also works closely with Margaret with our Full-Time and Part-Time students too. Karen enjoys meeting the flexible learning students who attend the intensive seminars, the opportunity to meet with the students can prevent individuals feeling isolated during their MBA journey. Karen regularly helps students to organize social events and particularly enjoys attend the events with the students. Karen is addicted to Very high heels, beauty products and Vivienne Westwood.
Ryan Martin joined the team recently as a Modern Apprentice and this role entails helping out the whole Programme team with general administration for the MBA programme (all routes).
